Suicidality and the Informed Use of the 1013
Current research indicates that suicide is now one of the most frequent ways that certain population groups are likely to die, including military veterans at the rate of about 22 per day. Suicidal clients also represent one of the most challenging and stressful groups of clients that mental health clinicians will have to treat. This course will assist practitioners in developing best practices for conducting a thorough assessment for suicidality and will prepare clinicians for conducting an appropriate involuntary hospitalization for clients at imminent risk.
Upon Completion of this course participants will:
- Comprehend the risk factors related to suicide
- Learn best practices approaches for conducting a thorough suicide assessment
- Apply best practices tools and measures for suicide assessment
- Grasp the implications of using this assessment approach for responding to suicidal clients
- Understand how to utilize the 1013/2013 tool for conducting an involuntary hospitalization
- Know the local and state-wide resources for providing support to suicidal clients
- Deepen understanding of responding to suicidal clients through the use of scenario analysis and experiential learning
