    Healthcare Oncology Symposium

    Oncology Care is as diverse and unique as the patients we serve. As a healthcare professional it is vital that we stay abreast of the latest trends in order to provide the highest quality care to our patients and their families. This full-day Healthcare Oncology Symposium will provide the latest in oncology care from top professionals within the field. Elaine Smith, MS, LMFT will open the symposium with a look at Compassion Fatigue and how we can utilize mindfulness as a coping strategy. The day continues with informative presentations on Genetics and Genomics. Our speakers, Altovise Ewing, PhD, and Amanda Woodward, MSN, RN, OCN, will guide attendees through genetic mutations, phenotyping, hereditary cancers, and much more. Later, Martha Polovich, PhD, RN, AOCN, will discuss the new USP standards on the safe handling of hazardous drugs. We will end the day with Kelly Dyar, EdS(c), MSN, RN, CNN, CNE, who will unfold the Theory of Human Caring, and Rebecca Palpant Shimkets, MS, as she presents on the elements of survivorship.

    By attending our workshop, you will be able to:

    1) Explain the effects of professional fatigue on the mind and body.

    2) Compare and contrast clinical, research, and organizational ethics issues.

    3) Utilize an ethics decision framework to address ethical issues withi healthcare.

    4) Identify 2 research ethics issues that impact healthcare delivery.

    5) Discuss the healthcare ethical values at play for each case scenario presented.

    Our co-sponsor, CEU Concepts (#1239) is approved as a provider for live social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) through the Approved Continuinng Education (ACE) Program.  CEU Concepts maintains responsibility for the program.
