    Ethics and the Provision of Telemental Health Services: A Detailed Overview for Clinical Professionals

    Presenting a one-day, six hour Telemental Health ethics conference, to provide the mental health clinician with a powerful learning experience for addressing emerging challenges to clinical practice from electronic modes of communication with clients and the emergence of distance modes of counseling.  This program fulfills the requirements for 6 hours of training in Telemental Health under Composite Board rule 135-11.

     Approval will be provided by NASW GA for use by Social Workers and by LPCA for use by Professional Counselors.  

    Conference Agenda (9:15 AM to 4:30 PM with breaks, 6 Contact Hours in ethics and Telemental Health

     

    This conference will address:

    1) the ethical complexities of providing services via electronic modes of communication, including technical and security issues related to the protection of client privacy and confidentiality under HIPAA and the Hi-Tech Act of 2010, and the Final Omnibus Rule of March 2013.

    2) clinical complexities of mental health practice in the era of e-communications, including an overview of how to utilize phone, text, email, and teleconferencing based services in ways that both operate under best practices guidelines and meet guidelines under HIPAA, the Hi-Tech Act of 2010 and the final omnibus rule of March 2013.

     

    Conference Agenda:

    •  Introduction to the relationship of law to ethical practice, best practices in ethical decision making, and best ethical decision models.
    • Introduction to GA Composite Board Rule 135-11 and implications for licensed mental health clinicians in GA.
    • Introduction to guidelines for privacy and e-communication under HIPAA, the Hi-Tech Act of 2010, and the Final Omnibus Rule of March 2013.
    • Legal, ethical, and technical challenges to the protection of client privacy and confidentiality when providing mental health services via distance communication formats.
    • Overview of elements of clinical best practices in providing mental health services using distance communication formats.
    • Understanding the key ethical information that must be transferred as part of the supervisory process with regard to HIPAA, the Hi-Tech Act of 2010, the Final Omnibus Rule of March 2013, and the new culture of social media and e-communications

    From the North: Take 400 South to Exit 7 and go right (west) on Holcomb Bridge Road (Highway 92) towards Woodstock.  Approximately 5 miles ahead, you will take a right on Mountain Park Road after the Super Target shopping center on your right. Follow Mountain Park Road straight ahead into the city of Mountain Park. Follow the "yourceus training" directional signs to the Civic Center at 112 Lakeshore Drive.    

    From the South: Take 400 North and take exit 7-B onto Holcomb Bridge Road, then follow directions listed above to the Civic Center.
