ETH8283 Title: Leadership, Authority and Ethical Decision Making for More Advanced Clinicians Description: The objective of this intermediate course on ethics is to deepen the understanding of the process of making ethical decisions, with a focus on the importance of leadership issues that are involved in ethical decision making. This course includes a brief review of concepts presented in yourceus.com’s introductory course on the ethical decision making process, and provides a number of scenarios to highlight some of the concepts presented in the training program. When the trainee completes this course, he or she will have a better understanding of the following:
1) Key principles of leadership and their relation to clinical practice 2) Key leadership skills and their relation to clinical practice 3) What is involved in defining the correct mission in clinical work with clients 4) Key principles related to professional authority, and the proper uses of professional authority 5) The relationship between humility and effective practice with clients 6) The difference between legal, moral, and ethical modes of examining complex situations 7) The role of the clinician’s and the client’s values in a leadership oriented ethical approach This course will also serve to reinforce important understandings related to each mental health clinician's obligations towards protecting the integrity of his/her profession.
This intermediate level course is primarily designed for clinicians in the intermediate stages of their career, or for more senior clinicians reviewing basic concepts in this area.
